Almost 40 years after it was first staged in Lough Gur, John B Keane’s classic play ‘The Field’ is being performed there again, by Lough Gur Amateur Dramatic Society in the Honey Fitz Theatre. First performed there in 1975, this powerful drama tells the story of the hunger for land and its effects on rural Ireland. The play takes to the stage on Friday 18th, Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th January with curtain up at 8pm each night. The current production includes four of the cast of the 1975 production which included the late great Tom McNamara as The Bull McCabe. The four cast members who featured in 1975 are Billy Leo who stars as The Bird O’Donnell and he also played the same part in that production, Deborah Hogan is playing Maggie Butler, Paddy Leo is playing the part of William Dee and Seamus Dooley plays The Bull. Other cast members include Pat Casey, Kevin Doody, John English, Cathal Kirby, Siobhán Kirby, Anna Mul-cahy, Padraig Mulcahy, Seamus Murnane, Frances O’Donovan, John O’Grady and Brian Sheehan. The show is produced by Marella Mulcahy.
