Mallow GAA Minors storm into hurling league semi-final

Mallow ………………..3-10

Sarsfields ………………0-5

The Mallow minor hurling team of 2011 qualified for the semi final of their league competition with a comprehensive, deserved but hard fought victory over Sarsfields in Carrigoon at the weekend. An early goal from Padraig Buckley at full forward settled the home side, and despite wintry conditions Mallow entertained the hardy home followers with a neat display of fast striking and accurate shooting. The defence was ably led by Gavin O’Sullivan, Conor Hannan and Killian O’Connor and scoring from the visitors was kept very manageable.

At the other end Ed Healy scored two delightful points, to add to scores from Aaron Sheehan and Patrick Herlihy which left the interval score Mallow 2-6 Sars 0-3.

Sarsfields threatened at the start of the second half but were unable to penetrate the Mallow defence where Ryan Harkin was in command in goal. The battle was fought at midfield throughout the second half and scores were hard to come by. Aaron Sheehan contributed from frees and play to keep Mallow in front.

It took a great individual goal from Patrick Herlihy to seal victory and set up a tough semi final v Na Piarsaigh this Saturday at 2 pm in Carrigoon.
