The community of Patrickswell received an early Christmas present after Ce-Tek Medical based in Castletroy donated a defibrillator following the theft of a piece of lifesaving equipment from outside the local church.
The piece of lifesaving equipment was stolen from the church just outside the village over a week ago.and is used to restart someone’s heart having gone into cardiac arrest. The use of a defibrillator and the delivery of CPR by a trained person whilst waiting for an ambulance to arrive, can increase the survival by four fold.
The defibrillator which was stolen was one of two in the village put in place 10 years ago through fundraising efforts by the local Community Council. These defibrillators are maintained and serviced by the Community Council.
Ger Hickey is the General Manager of Limerick based company Ce-Tek Medical. “As a company we take our social responsibility very serious, it is very disappointing to see life saving equipment being vandalised and stolen. We at Ce-Tek Medical are delighted to be able to help out the Patrickswell Community and I wish them the best of luck with their new defibrillator”

“A defibrillator is a piece of life-saving equipment that could save someone’s life, following the theft I had been concerned on how we were going to get the device replaced due to the cost associated with purchasing one.
I knew this wouldn’t happen overnight.”
“I was delighted to be approached by Ger General Manager of Ce-Tek in the days following the theft where he informed me that Ce-Tek Medical were willing to donate a new defibrillator to the people of Patrickswell”
“We are now looking for a new location to position this defibrillator and it is hoped we will have it in place for the new year”
Patrickswell Community Council are grateful to Ger and all at Ce-Tek for their generosity in donating this piece of lifesaving equip-ment that we hope we will never have to use but in the event of it being used, it may be the difference between life or death.
