Emily makes debut for Ireland

Last Saturday was a proud day for Emily Lane from Mallow who made her debut for the Ireland rugby team which beat Wales in the 6 Nations Championship.

Mallow rugby player Emily Lane made her debut for the Ireland senior team in Cardiff last Saturday when they beat Wales 45-0 in their Six Nations game. Emily was on the replacements’ bench for the game, and came on in the second half to contribute to what was a comprehensive win for Ireland. The team will face France this Saturday at 2.15pm, and Emily will be hoping to get more game time. She is following in the footsteps of another former Mallow RFC alumna, Anna Caplice from Dromahane, who has produced several stirring performances for Ireland in recent years but missed out on selection for this season’s Six Nations. Another Mallow connection is Churchtown native Heather O’Brien who was on the Ireland team for the 2014 World Cup and scored a try, and nowadays runs a physiotherapy and acupuncture clinic in Mallow.
