Art Club celebrates 41st birthday!

Mallow Art Club celebrated its 41st year in existence last Thursday night with a group exhibition in Mallow Library opened by Ian McDonagh, Arts Director of Cork County Council.   This event, which shows some amazing work by members of the club, also includes memorabilia, pictures, articles and catalogues from years gone by up to the present day. The event was very well attended and among those who spoke glowingly about the club were Mayor Cllr. Dan Joe Fitzgerald who was present at one of his last duties as Mayor, and Cllr. Noel O’Connor. The event was presented by Noreen Murphy, Chairperson of Mallow Art Club who welcomed everybody to the exhibition and introduced the speakers.

Presentations were made to two founder members, Mr John Finnegan and Mr Noel Gainey on their dedication and commitment to the club over the years.   John Finnegan unfortunately was unable to attend on the night, but the presentation was accepted by his daughter Paula who thanked the club for the gift and the kind comments of all the speakers.

The exhibition will run until July 4th and everyone is encouraged to take a look at some of the wonderful exhibits on display and perhaps purchase a piece of art which can only appreciate in value over the years as well as bringing enormous pleasure in its own right. Mallow can be proud of its artists and, while the club is thriving, new members are very welcome.   The club meets every first Thursday from September to June in the Mercy Centre at 7.30pm where a demonstration is given by an established artist. Saturday workshops are another feature where everyone meets to paint together with a tutor. The day includes tea/coffee in the morning, lunch and tuition. Details can be had by contacting 086 8818500.
