Kevin O’Callaghan’s family, friends and sup-porters were celebrating last weekend after the Mallow table tennis player won one gold and one silver medal at the European Para Youth Games in Istanbul, Turkey. While he did not progress from his Class 4 group in the singles, Kevin went on to medal twice in the doubles events, earning a silver medal with his German partner in the doubles, followed by the ultimate, a gold medal in the mixed doubles with his Spanish partner.
Also competing for Ireland was Darragh O’Regan, who was a member of the Ireland wheelchair basketball squad, and they made a good start, beating France 40-35 in a tightly contested opening game, before facing a tougher challenge against the Netherlands, a game they lost despite making a valiant effort.
