€1.2m in funding for Co. Limerick projects

Two County Limerick Rural Regeneration sites have been allocated monies under the Rural Regener-ation and Development Fund. Just under €900,000 has been approved for the Merchant’s House site in Kilmallock and around €350,000 for the former Bank of Ireland, Rathkeale. It is part of a nationwide funding of €20 million for approximately 30 landmark projects.
The funding, under the Rural Regeneration Dev-elopment Fund (RRDF), is being invested in projects that will rejuvenate town centres, drive economic growth and town footfall, combat dereliction and vacancy, develop pedestrian zones and outdoor spaces and boost tourism in rural Ireland.
“In 2025, we continue to roll out unprecedented levels of investment in rural Ireland – making our towns and villages better places to live, work, raise a family and run a business. This announcement confirms our strong commitment to supporting our rural communities both economically and socially,” said Minister for Rural and Community Development Dara Calleary.“The projects being invested in represent the huge ambition that underpins ‘Our Rural Future’ and will have a truly transformational impact right across the country. When complete, these projects will leave a lasting difference on these locations for generations to come, benefitting tens of thousands of families in Rural Ireland.”
Fellow Ministers Patrick O’Donovan and Niall Collins also welcomed the allocation of local funding. “Both of these projects are hugely important for our heritage and history in rural Limerick and the funding announced today will be a significant boost to attracting more vibrancy and tourism to both Rathkeale and Kilmallock,” Mr. Collins said.
