Ben O’Sullivan, Team Leader for Kilmallock Tidy Towns, welcomed everybody to the first inaugural meeting of the Sensory/Community garden. He welcomed Manuel Malis, Landscape Architect LCC and Trevor McKechnie, Senior Executive Engineer with LCC, Cllr Greg Conway, along with representatives from Scoil Mocheallóg, Coláiste Iósaef, Kilmallock Active Age, Kilmallock Autism Mum’s group, St Joseph’s foundation and a large group from Kilmallock Tidy Towns.
Ben gave an outline of the Sensory/Community garden which was the brainchild of Ber Hurley and had recently been approved by Kilmallock Town Centre as its first major project. Kilmallock Town Centre is a Limerick City/Council-led initiative bringing all the organisations in the community around the table to plan and plot their way forward. It has the potential to make some major changes to the town all for the better.
The Sensory /Community Garden is a way of appreciating and thanking parents, teachers, carers and SNAs for all the fantastic work they do in caring for those with challenges in our community. We hope that when finished this amenity will bring comfort and enjoyment to all those who use it. Kilmallock Tourism through its CE scheme was thanked for great work they do in our community day in and out cutting grass looking after flower beds etc.
Limerick City/County Council were thanked for all the great work they do throughout the community and were congratulated on being awarded €886200 to commence work on the stone Mansion which will transform the Town and make Medieval Kilmallock a must place to visit.
