Buttevant end 99-year wait for county success

Pat Horgan, Chairperson Cork GAA, presenting the Donal Hurley Cup to Buttevant captain Mark Lenahan.

Buttevant were victorious in the County Premier Junior Football Championship Final last Saturday evening, defeating St. Nick’s in an absorbing encounter at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
The Black and Amber have had to wait 99 years since they last tasted football success at county adult level, but will argue that it has been worth the wait as they accounted for their city-based opponents on a scoreline of 1-15 to 0-10. Having deservedly vanquished St. Nick’s, there were scenes of wild celebration among supporters at the home of Cork GAA as Buttevant captain Mark Lenahan lifted the Donal Hurley Cup.
Elsewhere, Charleville also claimed football success last weekend, ending a five-year drought to defeat Liscarroll-Churchtown Gaels 0-18 to 0-13 in the North Cork Junior A Football Championship Final in Milford on Saturday.
