Cecilstown man Mossy Buckley has been nominated for the Lord Mayor’s Community Award, the winners of which will be announced on Tuesday next, 10th February in Cork County Hall, Cork City.
Mossy’s nomination recognises the huge amount of voluntary work he does across many communities, including:
– Ongoing work with Mallow Tidy Towns
– Volunteering with the Rivervalley Residents’ Association in Mallow
– Community volunteering with Castlemagner Development Association
– Fundraising and collections for Penny Dinners over the years.
Born and raised in Cecilstown, Mossy’s long-standing association with the parish goes back many years, and he was part of the Ballyhass National School team of 1981, scoring a point when they won the Duhallow Final.
While Mossy is now resident in Mallow, within Castlemagner parish he has been involved in numerous community projects, such as serving on committees to help restore the historic water pump in Castle-magner village, assisting with the launch of historical signage at Lohort Castle in Cecilstown, tidy-ups of Castlemagner graveyard, and many other local initiatives. He also regularly carries out litter picks in Cecilstown, weeding and maintaining footpaths and approach roads, all quietly done for the good of the com- munity.
This nomination is thoroughly deserved and is a great example of how one person’s efforts can make a real difference. Mossy hopes this recognition will encourage more people to get involved in volunteering locally. Best of luck next Tuesday, Mossy.
