Limerick is set to receive €133 million in national roads funding this year, delivering a major investment in road safety, maintenance and infrastructure resilience across the county, Fine Gael Minister Patrick O’Donovan TD has confirmed. The funding forms part of a €1.5 billion nationwide roads package, representing a 13% increase on 2025, aimed at strengthening Ireland’s national, regional and local road network.
Welcoming the announcement, Minister O’Donovan said: “This €133 million investment is a major boost for Limerick and will directly improve safety and reliability on our national roads. Our road network is critical to Limerick’s economy – supporting local businesses, connecting families to work and education and ensuring safe journeys across the county. We are prioritising the protection and renewal of the roads we rely on every day, while also ensuring they are resilient to increasingly severe weather.”
Limerick City and County Council allocations for national roads in the region of €133m include the following; M7, Junction 29, upgrade; N20, Rourke’s Cross, minor upgrade; N21, Abbeyfeale, R515; N21, Devon Cross, R515; N24, Grange Cross, R515; N24, Pallasgreen, upgrade; M7, Junction 28, capped contribution, N20, Rourke’s Cross; N24, Beary’s Cross; N24, Oola, pavement; N69, Kilteery Pier; N69, RSI implementation; N69, Boland’s Cross, N69, Mungret and Boland’s Pavement; N21 – 69 Foynes to Limerick, including the Adare bypass M20 Limerick to Cork; N21 Abbeyfeale Relief Road; N21 Newcastle West Relief Road.
Minister O’Donovan added: “For Limerick, from our city to our rural communities, safe and reliable roads are essential. This funding ensures continued investment in the infrastructure that keeps our county moving and our economy growing.”
