27 gymnasts from Pyramid Gymnastics Club recently travelled to Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, for the Charlotte Rose Memorial Cup. Charlotte Rose was a young talented gymnast with the Splitz Gymnastics Club who sadly passed away in May 2024. Twelve clubs from north and south of the country travelled to this wonderful event, hosted by Jennifer Hanna.
Saturday started with our most experienced trio of Caoimhe O’Riordan, Aoidin O’Sullivan and Ava Sheehan performing their balance routine. Their routine was made up of beautiful choreography and static balance elements to complete their 2-minute exercise. Our two Aspire trios of Martyna Zajac, Roisin Turner, Mahle Ncube and Holly Harris, Abbie Griffin and Mia Ringrose, were next to perform. The girls were completing lots of new gymnastic elements comprising of somersaults, balance elements and tumbling skills. Again, the quality of choreography was excellent from these two trios, earning them the gold and bronze medal positions.
Our grade 4 trio of Kila O’Donovan, Sophie Galvin and Aoife Aherne, and pair of Amelia Hughes and Sarah O’Mullane. were competing in Fermanagh for the first time. The girls did amazing, coming third and fourth respectively, a massive achievement from two new partnerships.
Our second Grade 4 trio of Grace Crowley, Lucy O’Rourke and Lucy Flynn danced elegantly around the floor to claim the silver medal. The girls have worked very hard to get selected for this event and they really did themselves so proud.
Last up for the morning session were Caoimhe, Aoidin and Ava with their dynamic routine. This routine is fast-paced, with twisting elements, fast tumbling, and front and back somersaults. The girls came home with two sets of medals, gold for their dynamic routine, and silver for their balance routine.
Our Aspire trio of Martyna, Roisin and Mahle received the highest score from the morning competition for the club to obtain the beautiful roses and the gold medal.
The afternoon session opened up with our grade 3 trio of Kate Barrett, Elizabeth O’Riordan and Emily Murray. They performed a lively routine that got the audience clapping and everyone ready to go for the afternoon. The girls received the silver medal for their great performance. Our second trio just missed out on a medal position by the smallest of margins. Again, this was a new group that had only been working together a few weeks, so a massive well done to these girls, Meabh Dorgan, Rosie Morris and Jane Crowley.
Last on for the day were our two new groupings of Ella Quinn, Ava McNulty, Ellie Harold and Lauren Walsh. These girls were absolutely super in the run-up to this competition, learning new routines, all-new balance elements and individual elements to name but a few. Ellie and Lauren joined for third place and Ella and Ava won the coveted gold and the other set of Roses for the highest score from the afternoon.
Scores from the top five routines per club determined the winning team for the Charlotte Rose Memorial Cup, and this is where the Pyramid club came out on top. The gymnasts were absolutely thrilled with this result along with all the individual medals.
A huge thank you to all our coaches and judges who travelled with the team. Well done to everyone involved.
