A wonderful new local venture, O’Sullivan Family Apiaries, has been established by three young boys, Stan, Alex and Anton, who are already making a positive impact on biodiversity across North Cork.
Working on their family land in Newtownshandrum, the boys have planted over 100 native Irish trees, helping to create important habitats for wildlife and strengthen the local environment for future generations.
Alongside their tree planting initiative, they are developing a growing apiary of Native Irish Black Honey Bees, Ireland’s original dark honey bee. Hives are now established in Charleville, Colemanswell and Newtownshandrum, with plans to expand to 30 or more native hives by the end of the summer.
The Native Irish Black Bee is uniquely suited to Ireland’s climate and plays a vital role in pollination for local farms, gardens and wild plants. By focusing on both native trees and native bees, O’Sullivan Family Apiaries is helping to protect Ireland’s natural heritage while building a proud family-run enterprise.
At such a young age, Stan, Alex and Anton’s dedication, work ethic and community spirit are truly inspiring. They are a credit to their family and to the wider North Cork area.
The community wishes them every success as they continue to grow O’Sullivan Family Apiaries in the months and years ahead.
