Croagh Kilfinny enjoyed a highly successful outing at the Munster Community Games Draughts Finals, held on Sunday, April 19th, in Rathkeale House Hotel, with two of their three teams claiming provincial titles.
An early start saw competition get underway at 10am, with teams from across Munster gathering for a day of intense and skilful play. Croagh Kilfinny proudly had three teams representing Limerick in the U10, U12, and U14 categories.
The U14 team, Alice Frawley, Tadhg Hannon, Grace O’Riordan, Aisling O’Riordan, Emma Hogan, Aisling Hayes and Faye Geary, delivered a strong performance but were ultimately edged out by a formidable Kerry side, losing by the narrowest of margins, just a single point. Despite the disappointment, their effort and determination were evident throughout the competition.
There was great success, however, for the club’s younger players. The U10 team, Daniel Frawley, Billy Foley, Oisín O’Malley, James Mullane, Fionn O’Malley, Eilis Hannon and Jason Liston, put in an outstanding performance to secure yet another Munster title. Equally impressive were the U12 side, James Hough, Jack Mullane, Aoife Hannon, Kate Frawley, Colm O’Riordan, Ellie Foley and Anna Hickey, who also emerged victorious in their category.
Both teams now go on to represent their parish at the All-Ireland Community Games Finals in Kilkenny this July.
These victories mark significant milestones for the club. The U12 side has now claimed back-to-back Munster titles, while the U10 team continues an extraordinary run, making it four consecutive years as Munster champions.
The achievements are a testament not only to the players’ dedication and skill but also to the guidance and commitment of their coaches, Phil Foley, Mary Frawley, Catherine O’Malley and Martina Mullane.
Well done to all involved in this fantastic accomplishment, and best wishes to the U10 and U12 teams as they prepare to compete on the national stage in July.
