Planning is at an advanced stage for the Mallow Arts Festival which will be held in July, and Mallow Arts Collective has announced four headline acts for gigs which will be held in St. James’s Church. One of the most anticipated concerts will almost certainly be the one by legendary Fermoy group ‘Loudest Whisper’ who will perform on Thursday, July 23rd, for a show comprised of two distinct halves – the first part of the night will comprise an acoustic set showcasing some of the material from their folk opera ‘The Children of Lir’, while the second part of the show will be an electric rock ‘n’ blues set.
On Friday, July 24th, Sean Keane will make a long-awaited return to Mallow. Expect a show comprised of his many hit recordings and undoubtedly there will be reminiscences and tributes to his late sister, Dolores.
On Saturday, July 25th, Ireland’s original psychedelic folk group Dr Strangely Strange will take the stage. Following many requests, the group who originally hit the British charts in the 70s have recently reformed and Mallow Arts Festival is delighted to welcome them to North Cork.
On Sunday, July 26th, the Arts Festival will present a show which was one of the hits of last year’s Cork Midsummer Festival. ‘Songs and Souls’ is a moving, riotous celebration of characters, music and storytelling featuring unforgettable voices from the plays of Deirdre Kinahan and music from Ireland’s premier rock fiddler, former Waterboy Steve Wickham.
