Cork County Council has issued Compulsory Order Notices on three properties in Mallow town, all of which have been objected to by their owners, and they have since been submitted to An Coimisiún Pleanála for a determination. The three properties are the former Central Hotel/Mallow Park Hotel site, the building adjacent to the hotel which was formerly known as the Favourite shop, and the derelict site on Tuckey’s Hill (opposite O’Keeffe’s Newsagents). This site has the remains of two buildings on it, but it is understood that only one part of the site is part of the CPO process at present.
Speaking to the Mallow Star this week, Cllr Gearóid Murphy said that, because the CPO process is ongoing, council officials are precluded from commenting on the matter, though a determination could be expected by the end of this year.
All three properties have been in a state of dereliction for a number of years, and a recent article in the Irish Times found that Mallow has the biggest number of derelict sites in Co. Cork towns.
Cllr Murphy concluded by saying that, “For my own part, without commenting on the matters which are before the Coimisiún for determination, I’d just like to say that I would love to see all three sites put back into productive use, and will do everything I can to support all parties in working towards this goal. They all have the potential to be fantastic additions to Mallow town centre.”
