Twins Dáithí and Micheál Boyce from Drom-collogher were among the stars of the recent LauraLynn Oscars awards ceremony at the Odeon Cinema in Charlestown, Dublin, a Hollywood-style event celebrating creativity and imagination.
The ceremony, hosted by actress and writer Amy Huberman (who also contributed as a writer), and which also saw celebrated actor Domhnall Gleeson in attendance, showcased six original films created by children who attend LauraLynn – Ireland’s Children’s Hospice, along with their families. The ceremony gave the children the opportunity to receive a red-carpet experience, before seeing their creations on the big screen.
Dáithí and Micheál starred in, and created, the film “Knights of the Green and Red”, a tale of royalty and knights fighting for the glory of Limerick and Cork, for which they won the Best Entertainment Oscar.
Now in its 9th year, the LauraLynn Oscars is an initiative created by Project Co-ordinator Lorna Collins and Family Therapist Michelle Hartnett, with the aid of countless professionals and volunteers both from the industry and from LauraLynn, including long-time volunteer Joanna Butler. The project aims to give the children the full filmmaking experience, from screenwriting through to production.
Michelle said of the occasion: “The LauraLynn Oscars is a celebration of children, families and the joy of being together. It gives families the opportunity to create their own movie, bring their ideas to life and enjoy their moment in the spotlight.
“This family support project culminates in our gorgeous red-carpet event giving families a chance to have fun, celebrate each other and create memories to treasure.”
