Davis College is celebrating a wonderful achievement in science and technology. A group of 9 students are travelling to California this Sunday, 14th April to compete in the Vex World Robotics Championship. The competition encourages schools to look at innovative ways of teaching and learning to promote interest in careers in science and technology. The team was mentored by four teachers from the school, Ms. C. O’Sullivan, Mr. E. Long, Mr. R. Stack and Mr. M. Kelly, and two volunteers from EMC, Dave Doyle and Philip Carey. As part of their work, they built a first class robot, set up a website (dcrobotics.weebly.com) and are also on Twitter (Robotic_DC) .
The college is also proud of its emerging reputation as a leader of quality teaching and learning in science, technology, engineering and maths. The college’s success was highlighted on RTE’s Nationwide Programme on Friday 11th January.
The Vex Robotics Programme has been an exciting and engaging addition to the curriculum for students this year. The educational value has been profound and has exposed students to new areas in science, technology, engineering and maths in a practical fashion. We’re excited at the prospect of competing on the world stage and look forward to representing Cork and Ireland in California next week. We’re especially grateful to all our sponsors who have supported our involvement in this initiative.
