All are welcome to official opening of Adare Playground

The official opening of the new all-abilities play-ground at Adare Recrea-tion and Community Complex, known as The Manor Fields, will take place on Monday next, as Adare Recreation and Community Complex Ltd (ARCC) voluntary committee celebrate the completion of phase one of the development. The installation of the playground, as well as entrance and parking facilities, is thanks to grant aid in excess of €334,000, provided by West Limerick Resources under the Rural Development (LEADER) programme.

Elaine Sparling, honorary secretary of Adare Recrea-tion and Community Com-plex Ltd., welcomed the opening, saying, “We have been working for over 12 years to get a playground for Adare”. She also thanked Adare Manor and the Kane family for giving the site for the complex. The all-abilities play-ground is the first of its kind in the area, and the committee is now hoping to secure funding to begin construction of an all-weather pitch to accom-pany the three pitches which have already been developed on the site. In time it is planned that the complex will also incor-porate tennis courts, a trim trail and clubhouse, with changing rooms and toilet facilities. In total it is estimated that the develop-ment of the entire 25-acre site will cost in the region of €2 million on a phased basis.

Festivities on Monday will run from 11am to 1pm, and will include story-telling at the new storytelling section of the playground with Ann-Marie McCarthy author of ‘Fungie’ and the ‘Bubble the Dragon’ series of books. All are welcome. For more, see page 30.
