JOHN THE BAPTIST CS, HOSPITAL…………………………………………………………………………………3-10
SCOIL MHUIRE, TRIM………………………………………………………………………………………………………..1-8
John the Baptist Community School, Hospital, were crowned All-Ireland Senior D camogie champions following a comprehensive victory over Scoil Mhuire, Trim, in Trim on Monday afternoon.
It looked as if the effects of the long jaunt from the green pastures to the lush plains of Meath was about to take its toll when the home side opened brightly and inspired by a Caroline McLoughlin-Quinn goal they established a 1-4 to 0-1 lead.
However Helen Clifford and Seán Ryan’s fine tuned side soon found their rhythm and once in gear, despite playing against the elements, they started to pick off their scores and a couple of quick fire goals put them in the driving seat.
Andrea O’Sullivan, Caitlin Kennedy and Emma Morrissey all raised green as the Limerick girls established a 3-5 to 1-7 advantage by the short whistle.
John the Baptist turned over with wind advantage and early in the second half could have drawn away from the hosts had they converted a penalty.
The winners exerted a vice like grip on proceedings throughout the second half and restricted Scoil Mhuire to a solitary point in the period which came so late, it was nothing no more than a consolation.
John the Baptist meanwhile tacked on a further five points to finish as convincing winners as the scoreline suggests.
It was the first episode between the sides who will meet again in the All-Ireland Junior D camogie final at a Limerick venue next Tuesday.
