Anne Marie and Brian on target for World Championships

West Limerick will be doubly represented at the World Clay Target Shooting Championships in Wagga Wagga, Australia, next week, with Anne Marie Shiels from Cappagh captaining the women’s team while Brian Shanahan from Barna in Newcastle West is a member of the three-person junior team.
Anne Marie is captain of the three-person team representing Ireland at the Worlds, and her ten years at the sport has seen an enormous success. Ranked no. 1 in Ireland, in 2017 she was a member of Team Ireland which competed in the DTL Home Inter-national, British Open and European Championships, and won all three for the first time ever, a remarkable achievement. She has also had an individual 6th at the Worlds and has won European individual titles, and more.
Brian has been ever-present in the Ireland set-up since he was 14 years old, and has gold medals from the British Open Championships at U16, and European Champion-ships at U16, and many other accolades. Next week’s these will be his second World Champ-ionships.
Anne Marie will fly out with her team-mates this Thursday, while Brian will leave on Saturday for the Worlds which will run from 24th to 27th March. They will no doubt represent their home areas, West Limerick and Ireland with distinction, and we send them best wishes. For more, see page 66.
