Charleville native Anne Savage has been named on the shortlist for the inaugural Teachers Inspire Ireland initiative. Anne recently retired as principal of Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa, Glendalough, Co. Wicklow, and her nomination was a combined effort featuring video testimonials from current and former students, Anne’s nephew Denis Savage, and her Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa colleagues. Last May and June, Dublin City University called for members of the public to share their personal stories of how a teacher transformed their lives and/or their community, and twenty teachers – five from each province – were shortlisted from over 400 entries received from every corner of Ireland.
A Teachers Inspire Ireland gala event will take place at the Helix, DCU, next Friday, 4th October, at which four of the shortlisted teachers – one from each province – will receive the inaugural Teachers Inspire Ireland Desmond Award. Entries to Teachers Inspire were reviewed by a panel chaired by former President of Ireland Mary McAleese.
