Aoife is named Cork Rose 2015

Aoife Murphy from Mallow has been named the 2015 Cork Rose. She was announced as the lady to represent the Rebel County last Saturday at the Cork Rose Selection in the Silver Springs Hotel. Aoife is a research nutritionist and is currently completing her PhD with a scholarship at University College Dublin. The 25 year old has travelled the world for her PhD research and loves experiencing new cultures. She is actively involved in the Irish University Access programme which enables disadvantaged students to succeed in 3rd level education. In her spare time she enjoys communicating science to the general public in a fun and entertaining way, and has won several awards nationally and internationally for her communication skills. Aoife is a past pupil of Davis College and in her Leaving Cert year was named Overall Student of the Year. She now goes forward to represent Cork at the Rose of Tralee, which will be held in August. As winner of the Cork Rose, Aoife receives a 2015 Ford Fiesta courtesy car, sponsored by O’Brien’s Garage, Mallow, plus many more prizes.
