BALLYHOURA SUMMER SERIES

The Emly 13k Road Race taking place this Friday 6th September at 7.00pm, is the final race on the Limerick side of the Ballyhoura Series. The village of Emly is busily gearing itself  for its first ever 13k road-race. Registration commences at 6pm in Patsy Byrnes’. Following last year’s well-supported and successful 10k event, the Emly organisers applied for inclusion in this year’s Ballyhoura Active Summer Series of roadruns and were quickly accepted. The new course is a loop-circuit of the northern reaches of this historic parish, skirting the Limerick/ Tipperary border, and passing through the townslands of Knockane, Duncummin and Ballyvistea in the Old Pallas/Kilteely direction.

The 13k distance was chosen to replicate the  upcoming Charleville Half-Marathon which will be the final race in the Cork Series. The idea is  to provide a longer work-out for those preparing for that event, the final run in the 2013 series, on September 22nd next. This is a flat course with a solid surface, well-marshalled and with the promise of a warm welcome and refreshments for all runners. In addition to the road run, the organisers will also stage a fun walk in the vicinity of the village, with some surprise entertainment for all comers!

We look forward to seeing you all for this final chance to secure a series T- shirt. For more details check out the John Desmond Running in Munster Blog.
