There was great excitement at Ballylanders National School on Monday morning last as the children, teachers and members of the board of management gathered for the presentation of a cheque for €10,000 from the Ballylanders Development Association.

The Ballylanders Development Association has been fundraising throughout the year in promoting the special draw. Profits from the draw will go towards repayment of some of the outstanding debt from the recent development in the local Ballylanders Village Park and Playground. During the pandemic, the committee were busy developing this area to enable a safe outdoor space for all ages and abilities.
The development saw the installation of further inclusive equipment, a wellness and sensory garden along with a service building with toilets and covered picnic area.
The draw was made live at the Christmas in the Park event on Sunday 11th December, with the winning ticket being drawn by the man of the moment, Santa.
At the presentation on Monday morning, the principal of Ballylanders NS, Sheila Flynn, thanked the development association and praised the village park and playground for its inclusiveness and benefits to the school, the children and their families and to the wider community. “It is a wonderful place to have in our Village and we as a school hope to use it for many years to come,” the principal said. Sheila and the school’s board of management also made a presentation to the Ballylanders Development Association to add to the playground fund. The Ballylanders Development Association sincerely thanked the school for its continued support.
