A public information even-ing about the development of a boardwalk on Mallow Bridge will be held next Wednesday, 17th April, in the Hibernian Hotel from 4-9pm. The boardwalk project will involve the removal of the footpath on the bridge and the con-struction of a boardwalk on the outside of the bridge wall. Removal of the wall will allow for an extra lane of traffic on the bridge, which should improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists while also improv-ing traffic flow. The works will include the relocation of the Republican Monu-ment from its existing spot on the bridge parapet to a safer place in a new amenity area on the northern approach to the bridge.
It is envisaged that work will begin in June 2019 and take about 4 to 5 months to complete. Night-time work will be carried out at stages of construction to minimise traffic disruption. Some of the night works will require a full road closure over the bridge with diversions in place. In addition it is envisaged that a full time (day and night) lane closure and associated detour will be necessary for a period of the works; this will be confined to the school summer holiday period where possible. For lane closures, traffic travelling out of town (southwards) will be allowed to cross the bridge, while all other traffic will be detoured via the R619 and N20. Road closures and detours will be updated on Map Alerter at www.mapalerter.com,
All are invited to view the plans for the proposed works at the information meeting next Wednesday, and these plans will include details of traffic manage-ment during construction phases.
