Bridge boardwalk installation to start on 28th August

The long-awaited boardwalk will be installed on Mallow Bridge over four consecutive weekends, starting on 28th August, it was announced last week. Cllr Gearóid Murphy said that he and his fellow councillors were told that the work will require the closure of the bridge to traffic on these weekends. The boardwalk is currently being fabricated off-site and will be delivered in seven different sections to Mallow, where it will be assembled and lowered into place. Once the boardwalk is in place, it will open to pedestrians, after which time the footpath on the bridge will be removed and works such as road surfacing, road-marking, signal-isation, lighting, rubbing strips and snagging will be carried out. The whole project is due to be finished in November, according to the councillor.
