Budding Sportswriters in Ballybrown N.S

Ballybrown Pioneer and Total Abstinence Association recently organised an essay competition for members attending Ballybrown National School.

The topic was ‘My Favourite Sporting Moment of 2012’ and was confined to children in sixth class. The topic was a popular one that captured the imagination of all the children who set to their task with zeal.

Last Friday, Willie Ryan and Pat Gallagher of the local branch of the Pioneers visited the school to announce the results. The standard was so high that it was decided to award six prizes instead of the three originally envisaged.

Gary Kelly was the winner for his piece on Katie Taylor while Ross Fitzgerald was runner-up. Joint third prizes were awarded to Aisling Laffey, Joanne Davoren, Michael Kelly and Aibhe Diffley.

Wille and Pat were so impressed with the standard of the entries and the enthusiasm of the children that they have decided to run another competition before the school year is out.
