Cadan McCarthy, Mallow Swans Swimming Club, has been selected for Team Ireland to compete in the 2016 Schools Games at Loughborough University. Both he and Mallow Swans coach Cormac Powell, who has received a national appointment as coach to the Team Ireland swim team, will travel to England today, Thursday, for the School Games, which will run until Sunday.
Recently Cadan repesented both Mallow Swans and Swim Ireland Munster Region at the ASA British National Summer Championships in Sheffield, where he swam outstandingly to win gold in the 400m freestyle and 400m individual medley, as well as silver in the 200m butterfly and bronze in the 200m freestyle. Two weeks earlier, at the Irish Age Groups Summer Open, Cadan led the Munster challenge by winning gold in both 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley, silver in 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley, and bronze in 200m backstroke.
