Calls for End to Traffic Lights Chaos

There were further calls on Cork County Council this week to sort out the problem of traffic gridlock caused by ongoing problems with the lights at the Clock House junction. There were severe tailbacks last Friday and Saturday, before some relief came with the switching off of the lights on Sunday, Monday and early Tuesday.
Minister of State Seán Sherlock reiterated his call on Cork County Council to “end the uncertainty surrounding the traffic lights in Mallow, which is shutting our town down.
“Just this week, on Tuesday, the lights were out at the Clock House junction at the bottom of Tuckey’s Hill,” said Minister Sherlock. “Traffic flowed smoothly throughout the day. It was only when the lights were turned back on that gridlock commenced again. There were tailbacks up Thomas Davis Street and both ways down Bridge Street from 6pm onwards. This simply has to end. Traffic is disrupting trade and stopping the elderly in particular from crossing town in a timely manner in taxis,” he said.
