CHARLEVILLE HAS THE VOICE OF IRELAND, NOW THE NEXT KATIE TAYLOR OR JOHN JOE NEVIN

Charleville and Keith Hanley have already scooped the Voice of Ireland, now the town is on the lookout for the next Katie Taylor or John Joe Nevin if a newly formed boxing club, due to be launched shortly, has its way.

The Charleville Boxing Club project was initiated by Garda Nick Phelan and supported by Jane Beretta, Geraldine Lyons and Sharon Roche from local community groups. Locals Tommy O’ Donnell and Adam Kennedy have provided hands on advice as they both are seasoned boxers. Jim Walsh, secretary of Munster Council, has helped in an advisory capacity while in the true spirit of sportsmanship, Charleville GAA have been very supportive in providing a fabulous facility for the club.

The Boxing Club is inviting anybody interested to an open meeting on Wednesday 12th June at 7.30 p.m. in the GAA Clubhouse, Baker’s Rd., Charleville. “We are hoping to have a large turnout for this meeting so that we can estimate the support for the official launch in August 2013. This is a very exciting venture with a lot of interest already shown” the Vale Star was told last week.

Those interested in getting involved in the club in any capacity should attend the meeting on Wednesday 12th next. “Boxing is a very disciplined sport and a great option to get fit, keep the mind active and competitive. Let’s get behind and support local clubs and put Charleville on the map once again” the spokesperson added.
