Cllr. Dan Joe Fitzgerald Boardwalk shortlisted for award

Tributes were paid to the late Cllr. Dan Joe Fitzgerald at an event held at Cork County Council’s Mallow offices on Monday to celebrate the shortlisting of the new boardwalk on Mallow Bridge for a prestigious national award. The Cllr. Dan Joe Fitz-gerald Boardwalk was shortlisted for Best Community Transport Initiative at the LAMA All-Ireland Community and Council Awards, which were held recently.
Speaking after the event, Cllr. Gearóid Murphy, who proposed the original motion naming the boardwalk, said: “It is great to see recognition of the hard work done by Cork County Council’s officials in bringing this project to fruition. It is also wonderful to see the late Cllr. Dan Joe Fitzgerald recognised in this way and I am delighted that my motion to name the boardwalk after him received the unanimous support of my fellow councillors from across the political spectrum. Dan Joe was an exemplary public representative who worked very hard for his constituents and it was fitting that members of his family were in the Council Chamber in Annabella for this celebration.”
