Cllr Ian Doyle from Charleville has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach (Chair) of the Kanturk-Mallow Municipal District, with Cllr Gearóid Murphy from Mallow being selected as the new deputy chair-person. Both are members of Fianna Fail.
Speaking after his election, Cllr Doyle said that one of his main aims over the next 12 months is to progress the Mallow Relief Road and Charleville Relief Road, adding that the Mallow bypass is at an advanced stage, while Charleville is at stage two. He highlighted the heavy traffic going through both towns daily, and said it was important to keep the pressure on, while also pressing for progress on the proposed N/M20 Limerick-Cork Road.
The new Cathaoirleach also said that the council needs to ensure a high level of funding for road maintenance throughout North Cork, and to push for the upgrade of the water system in Charleville and surrounding areas.
In order to achieve these and other objectives, he said, it is important for the nine councillors in Kanturk-Mallow Municipal District to work together for the betterment of all.
