COLAISTE IOSAEF KILMALLOCK CAREERS NIGHT

At the recent AGM of The Parents Association a sub committee was formed to look into the possibility of organising a Careers Night for our senior cycle students and the whole 3rd level process. This led to organising a seminar type event which included topics for discussion such as Subject Choice, Points System, CAO, Access Routes to Third Level, exploring PLC options etc.

Frances Hayes and Mary O’Donoghue opened the night with Rita Moriarty giving a presentation on Preparation for Third Level. Guest speakers included: Mr. John McDermott, University of Limerick who spoke on the Access routes to college, i.e. H.E.A.R. and D.A.R.E., Ann Daly Kilmallock College Of Further Education spoke on Exploring the PLC Options.

Kevin Roche (a past pupil of the school) spoke on Secondary School and the change to College.

Roisin Kelleher (BA in Psychology and Sociology, MA in Career Guidance) gave a presentation on her wealth of knowledge in this area and spoke about current market trends.

Seán Twomey, closed the night, thanking students, parents, members of staff, guest speakers and the hard working committee for driving this initiative.

Following the night, very positive feedback was received from a large audience and it is hoped to make this an annual event going forward.
