COLÁISTE NA TRÓCAIRE WELCOMES BACK THE FIRST LADY OF CELTIC MUSIC

On Tuesday December 18th Moya Brennan the ‘Voice of Clannad’ returns to St. Mary’s Church, Rathkeale ,with her talented band to perform a specially produced seasonal show of celebration and reflection in the lead up to the festive season. The concert will commence at 7.30pm and is a fundraising event for the school. The choir of Coláiste na Trócaire under the direction of Ms. Jean O’Brien will host this concert and also accompany Moya Brennan as she performs songs from her Christmas CD ‘An Irish Christmas’. The concert promises a rich selection of traditional Irish and European Christmas songs and carols along with her enticing repertoire of well known solo and Clannad songs. This Celtic-inspired album of classic and contemporary songs and carols will include Silent Night, In the Bleak Midwinter, In Dulci Jubilo and Joy to the World amongst many other favourites. On the night the audience will also be treated to some surprise guest performances including local Parish Priest Fr. Phonsie Cullinan, who will perform with the Coláiste na Trócaire school choir, past pupil Derek Hickey of ‘De Dannan’ fame who will perform some rousing traditional tunes with present 3rd year student Dylan O’Shea and past pupil Laura O’Kelly who indeed has the ‘Voice of an Angel, to mention but a few. On speaking to some of the students involved during their busy rehearsals this week they had the following to say: “It is a great honour to be involved in this concert and I can’t wait to perform with one of Ireland’s most famous singers”, (Laura Mulqueen, 2nd year).“I am so excited that I will be singing with Moya Brennan in my very own parish church, I can’t wait”, (Treasa Coleman, 5th year). Rehearsals are hard but at the end it will be well worth it”, (Oonagh Walshe, 6th year).
