Mallow Search and Rescue received its largest single donation ever last Friday night in the Arches Bar when Sheila Ronayne, on behalf of the Colin Ronayne Memorial Fund, presented a cheque for €61,800 to John Woulfe, proceeds of a night at the dogs held during 2016 in Curraheen Greyhound Stadium. Speaking at the presentation, John Joe Ronayne thanked everybody for their support of the fundraising night at the dogs, especially the hardworking members of the Colin Ronayne Memorial Fund Committee, and also the many people throughout Mallow and North Cork who contributed. He also praised the invaluable work which Mallow Search and Rescue carries out throughout the year, and expressed a hope that the donation would be of benefit to them. In reply, John Woulfe thanked the Ronayne family and fund members for their hard work and wonderful donation. “This donation will ensure we can continue to carry out our work into the future,” he said.
The Colin Ronayne Memorial Fund was set up in the months following the death of Colin in Cork city during the Christmas/new year period last year, and it was decided that its first fundraiser would be in aid of Mallow Search and Rescue, whose members had joined the local community and worked tirelessly in the search for Colin.
