Community rallies to support the Cashmans

A fundraiser will be held in the Edel Quin Hall, Kanturk, this Saturday night to help support the Cashman family from Kanturk who lost their home and all their posses-sions in a fire recently. The Cashmans, living in the Dun an Óir estate, lost everything when fire broke out in an upstairs room of their house, but a far worse outcome was averted when Kevin Cashman, who was woken by a smoke alarm, managed to get his wife Suzann and four of their five children, Saoirse (18 months), Ryan (3), McKenzie (8), and Jennifer (13) to safety, and despite the flames and thick smoke he went back into the burning house to rescue 7-year-old Conor who was trapped upstairs. A manager at Dunnes Stores in Mallow, Kevin suffered burns to his legs and was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation after the heroic rescue.

It was a miracle that no one was injured, but the family was left homeless and without possessions, and the local community has rallied to their aid. An appeal was also made on RedFM’s Neil Prendeville Show which resulted in a flood of donations.

The Cashmans are staying with family and friends in Kanturk at the moment, but they are facing Christmas without a home. Please support this Saturday’s fundraiser in the Edel Quinn Hall, which will have an 8pm start.
