Council funding for arts projects

There was good news for the arts community in North Cork this week with the allocation of the Cork County Council Arts Grants Scheme. A number of local groups have been supported, including €3,000 for the Schoolyard Theatre in Charleville for its ‘Writing for Theatre Workshops’, €800 for Alan Finn, Joanne Quirke and Paul Clesham towards a CD showcasing the traditional music of North Cork, €500 to Kiskeam Brass Band for an event in conjunction with Shandrum Céilí Band, €1,500 to the Alzheimer Society of Ireland for its Dementia Carers Campaign Network public engagement programme, €800 for Mallow Camera Club towards the installation of members’ photographs in Holy Family School Charleville and Cope Mallow, €1,000 to the Irish Wheelchair Association for its Creative Artist Exchange Programme, €600 to IRD Duhallow CLG for contemporary circus workshops for young people with disabilities, €900 to Newmarket Afterschools for contemporary circus workshops, €600 to Meelin Amateur Dramatics for a drama workshop, and €800 to Cullen Pipe Band for tuition workshops.
Welcoming the news, Cllr John Paul O’Shea said, “I want to wish all groups success with their respective arts projects over the coming months and thank them for continuing to entertain us with their artistic talents over the year. This year most of all we can really appreciate the efforts of our arts community.”
