Council plans major works at Mallow Castle

Major developments are expected at Mallow Castle, and Cork Co. Council is giving the public a chance to see its plans which are available for viewing at Mallow Library and also at the Kanturk/Mallow Municipal District Office in the Cork Co. Council offices at Annabella. The council’s Part 8 planning process and public consultation will remain open until January 24th. The proposed development comprises a new public entrance at the northern boundary with Castlepark estate on St Joseph’s Road, a 28-space car park and drop-off area, a children’s playground,  accessible pathways from the entrance through the former walled gardens to the grounds of the castle, repairs, conservation and restoration works to existing remnant stone walls, walled garden features and glasshouse, new boundary fencing, gates and planting within the former walled gardens, and signage.
The news was welcomed by Cllr. Tony O’Shea who said: “This is a multi-million-euro development which has the potential to transform the grounds of Mallow Castle into a top-class public amenity. It will have a big impact on the town, both in terms of creating new business opportunities through tourism and by creating another amenity for the public to enjoy throughout the year.”
