Councillor highlights state of Spa road

Cllr. Gearóid Murphy this week spoke out about the ‘poor’ condition of the N72 Spa Road in Mallow town, which he described as being in “a dreadful condition”. The road serves as one of the main arteries out of Mallow and is the last point in the N72 before it diverges onto separate roads to Fermoy and Mitchelstown. Cllr. Murphy (FF) said that he had received several representations from local people over the past year about the rough surface on parts of the road.
He said: “The condition of this road is particularly bad, especially considering how busy it is and its status as a national route with a 100 km/h speed limit. I have been making representations about it for some time now, along with a number of my colleagues. I spoke to an official this week and have received assurances that this stretch of road will be the first to be done by TII [Transport Infrastructure Ireland] when the contract for upgrading the N72 around Mallow is awarded. Hopefully works will start later this year. Once this is complete, I understand that the next stretch of the N72 to be upgraded will be bet-ween Mallow Roundabout and the Park Road, which is also extremely busy and in need of repair.”
