Councillors meet with Minister about Mallow bypass funding

A group of Fine Gael councillors in North Cork has met with Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Simon Coveney TD to impress upon him the need to urgently release funding to progress with the long-awaited bypass for Mallow. The delegation included Cllr. Liam Madden, Cllr. Tony O’Shea, Cllr. John Paul O’Shea and Cllr. Noel McCarthy.
Expressing the need for action, Cllr. John Paul O’Shea, said to the minister that, “We are aware Budget 2024 discussions are underway and it is critical for Mallow and North Cork that we see tangible movements on funding for the Mallow Bypass as part of Budget 2024.
“We were bitterly dis-appointed to have only received €100,000 for the project as part of the Roads Allocation for 2023. The project is effectively on hold now until the Minister for Transport Eamonn Ryan TD allocates enough funding to bring it to the next stage of development.”
The councillors noted that Minister Paschal Donohoe recently published the Prospects 2023/2024 report which highlights 50 of the largest projects to progress in the state over the coming years, and the Mallow Bypass is included to proceed in this report.
