Davis College students to receive Young Citizen Award live on BBC

On Saturday next, April 12th, Young Social Innovator students from Davis College, Mallow, will be the first-ever Irish group of students to receive the Young Citizen Award, having been chosen for their outstanding work in the field of missing persons. Groups and individuals from all over Ireland and the UK enter this prestigious competition. Davis College was chosen from 375 entries after being nominated by Rotary Ireland to go forward for consideration. The students’ work received high praise and was unique in that all judges unan-imously agreed that they were worthy winners. Four of the students will take time out of their busy schedules, as they pre-pare to sit their Leaving Certificate this June, to represent the class of 22 students who campaigned tirelessly and success-fully for a National Missing Persons Day in Ireland. They will receive their award live on BBC Television on the morning of April 12th and will be accompanied by their proud teachers, Kathy Kilgallon and Siobhán Murray. Their prize money of £500 will be donated to Mallow Search and Rescue in recognition of their courageous work.
