Desmond College and Coláiste Chiaráin win at Young scientists

Limerick schools were to the fore at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition, held last week at the RDS in Dublin, and the excellence of the projects was commented on by the judges who presented awards to several West Limerick  schools. Jack O’Connor and Diarmuid Curtin from Desmond College in Newcastle West were highly commended for their project, ‘Ergono-mic Planter,’ and were also presented with a Science for Development Award, while Kayla McMahon from the same school took the Ei Electronics Award for the Fire Tech’ Stinguis-her.’ Hannah Lucey from Coláiste Chiaráin in Croom won a special award for her project, ‘How Old is the Universe,’ while Catriona and Finnian Brady-Halmschlagg, also from Coláiste Chiaráin, were highly commended for their investigation into the effect of desalinated water on the growth of plants.
