Well-known Ballyhea campaigner and founding member of the Ballyhea Says No group, Diarmuid O’Flynn, has announced his intention to run in the European Parliament elections in May as an Independent.
“While the group have made no decision yet on running a candidate in the local elections, I have decided – independently – to stand for Europe,” Mr. O’Flynn explained.
“Entering politics was never on my horizon, never in my plans. The choice, though, was made for me. A headline from the Irish Times in January this year still resonates with me – ‘Wealth of 85 richest people equal to that of poorest 3.5bn’. That’s 85 people, barely enough to fill a double-decker bus, having the same wealth as half the entire world pop-ulation, 3,500,000,000″, he said.
While Diarmuid O’Flynn is about to enter the political arena, another is leaving. The Labour Party in Limerick is reeling this week following the announcement that one of its two sitting members on Limerick County Council is not seeking re-election. Kilfinane-based Cllr.
