€20,000 RAISED IN BRIAN’S MEMORY FOR THE IRISH KIDNEY ASSOCIATION

It was an emotional day on Wednesday last for Newcastle West man Gabriel Hunt, and his wife Loretto, when he presented a cheque for €20,000 to the Irish Kidney Association on behalf of the Brian Hunt Memorial Committee. The staggering amount was raised as a result of a fundraiser in memory of their son, 26 year old Brian Hunt, who died suddenly and unexpectedly in May last year. Brian carried a kidney disease called Membranoproliferative Glomerulonephritis Type II. The presentation was part of a ceremony hosted by Brian’s manager, Newcastle West man, Michael Noonan and his colleagues when a commemorative plaque in the young man’s honour was unveiled at the Certus office in Limerick. “This is a very proud day for the family,” said Gabriel. “Everyone worked tirelessly to raise this money and it shows the high regard in which Brian was held.” The Irish Kidney Association said it was very grateful for the significant donation. “Events such as the Brian Hunt Memorial help to provide the funds necessary for the Association to carry out its work. Equally, the positive publicity helps to highlight the importance of organ donation and transplantation.” The Brian Hunt Memorial Committee is currently working on a fundraising event for 2013.
