On Tuesday last the community of Courtenay NS gathered to celebrate Mass in the school hall. The occasion was the retirement of Mrs. Elizabeth Stack  after 40 years of dedicated service to Courtenay NS. Mrs. Stack, a native of Mountcollins, was the first teacher of a special class in Courtenay in the 1970s. This addition to the school was, for its time, an innovative educational experience for children and Mrs. Stack taught for many years in special classes. Moving to mainstream, Mrs. Stack taught the Communion class for many years and her warmth and deep faith ensured the children were excellently prepared for this special day.
Last Tuesday the Mass in Courtenay was a wonderful celebration of the contribution Elizabeth has made to school life. As Deputy Principal she was the first to greet children as they arrived in the school each morning. Her happy disposition and genuine warmth meant she was a popular, highly valued member of staff. The good wishes from former pupils, teachers, parents and friends of Courtenay continue to arrive!
Elizabeth was joined on the day by her husband Mike, former Principal of Rockchapel National School, and her two daughters Bríd (Cork county footballer and All Ireland champion) and younger daughter, Muireann, both girls teachers!  Best wishes were sent from Elizabeth’s son Dr. Seamus Stack who is based in the UK. A wonderful happy occasion! We at Courtenay will miss you Mrs. Stack. We wish you long life and happiness in this, the next chapter! Go maire tú go céad.
