Elton bucks the trend with its very own parade

Bucking the trend with its very own event to celebrate St Patrick’s Day, a specially decked out South Limerick village of Elton came up trumps with its very own socially-distanced parade on Saturday last, writes John Barrett. Locals, afforded the opportunity to participate safely in individual and family bubbles, got into the spirit of the occasion by dressing up in green well ahead of the big day itself.
The parade, taking the theme ‘Dúisigh Éire – Awaken Ireland’, came together on foot of an idea dreamed up by second year creative broadcasting and film production student Amy Copeland, who allocated specific time slots to each participant to ensure that all Covid-19 guidelines were observed.
Margaret Reale of Creed’s Shop in Elton was high in her praise of the overall effort: “We must offer special thanks to Amy Copeland and Johnny O’Driscoll for filming and editing the event, as well as all the people who took part. It gave us all a lift,” she told the Vale Star. The parade is available to watch on the Elton Tidy Towns Facebook page and also on YouTube. (See full coverage inside this week).
