Emily Lane from Mallow has been named as part of the Ireland Women’s Rugby 7s squad for the opening round of the 2018-19 HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series which takes place in Glendale, Colorado, this weekend. Ireland are drawn in Pool C with Canada, Fiji and France. The tournament will be streamed live via World Rugby on www.youtube.com/irb, andwww.facebook.com/worldrugby7s
It is Emily’s World Series debut, having captained the U18 girls’ 7s team to gold at the UK Schools Games in 2017. She also played at the Rugby Europe U18 Vichy 7s on two occasions, as well as lining out for the Ireland Women’s 7s Development side at the Dubai 7s Invitational last season. She won her first senior 7s cap at the Rugby Europe Grand Prix in Kazan in September.
