Labour Party members in the Mallow Electoral Area last Thursday selected local school teacher Eoghan Kenny to replace the retiring Cllr James Kennedy on Cork County Council. Mr Kenny is 23 years old and was born, raised and living is in Mallow. He is currently a Business and Religion secondary school teacher in Coachford College.
Commenting this week, Eoghan said, “I’m delighted to be chosen by my Labour Party colleagues in Mallow to be co-opted to Cork County Council, replacing retiring councillor James Kennedy.
“I have always had a dream of being a public representative, to represent the very people I grew up with and those living in my community. It was always something I wanted to do, making change happen. To have this opportunity now is something I am very privileged to have.
“Having worked alongside Sean Sherlock TD in many capacities over the last number of years, I appreciate the work, dedication and commitment needed to be a public representative, and having Sean’s experience and expertise by my side is invaluable.
“There are many pressing issues in Mallow right now, and there are a number of ongoing problems that need to be addressed. In particular, a solution to the ongoing traffic congestion crisis, the amount of dereliction on our Main Street and trying to get shovels on the ground for the Mallow Relief Road. As a young 23-year-old, I feel I have the drive, energy and enthusiasm to deliver solutions to these problems and many more. I’m looking forward to meeting the people of Mallow and its environs over the next number of months and getting down to work on behalf of the people,” he said.
