Europe Day 2017 celebrated in style at Iveagh House

Europe Day is celebrated each year by citizens within the EU on 9th May. This year a delegation of pupils and staff represented Askeaton Senior NS in Iveagh House on Europe Day.
The photos on this page show some of the highlights of this very special occasion when delegates from two schools from Munster were honoured for their work on the Blue Star Programme on each of the last 5 years. This educational programme, which is taught in schools throughout the EU, helps pupils to develop a great understanding of life in other nations of the European Union.  It promotes a better understanding of cultural differences while encour-aging an appreciation of the similarities and differences between people from different nations.
Representatives from Scoil Réalt na Mara from Kilkee joined Askeaton Senior NS in celebrating Europe Day and accepted awards from Minister of State for European Affairs, E.U. Digital Single Market and Data Protection, Dara Murphy and from Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Charles Flanagan. The pupils also presented samples of some of their project-work and were interviewed by the Ministers and other staff of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade as well as leaders of the Blue Star Movement. The Executive Director of the European Movement Ireland, Ms Noelle O’Connell was Master of Ceremonies for the event and she was lavish in her praise for the pupils and their achiev-ements in the Blue Star Programme. Along with people all over Europe, the group joined together for a giant-sized European hand-shake, representing the fact that while we have many differences we also share much in common.
Ms M Curtin, the coordinator of the Blue Star Programme in Askeaton Senior NS accepted the award on behalf of her school. Ms E Corry accepted the award on behalf of Scoil Réalt na Mara of Kilkee.
